BYU quirks that apply
- The BYU Honor Code applies in housing — coffee, tea, alcohol, tobacco, and vapes are all prohibited, and coffee makers fall under the small-appliances-in-bedrooms ban.
- Visitors of the opposite sex are not allowed in bedrooms or bathrooms; common-area visiting hours run 9am–midnight (1:30am Fridays), with formal open houses Wed/Sun 7–9pm in Helaman.
- Heritage Halls is apartment-style with a full kitchen, but Helaman is traditional dorm with only a mini-fridge — pick based on whether you want to cook your own meals.
- Move-in is hot (80s°F) but Provo gets sub-zero with heavy snow by January — pack a real winter coat, boots, and gloves before you leave home.
- David John Hall is the one Helaman building with standard twin beds, not XL — verify your assignment before buying sheets.
- BYU enforces a dress and grooming standard in housing common areas — pack at least a few Honor-Code-compliant outfits for orientation events.
